A gag is a bondage accessory worn in or across the mouth, held in place by a strap. It limits speech or keeps the mouth open and is used in consensual role play and restraint scenes. Gags vary a lot in how much they restrict, so choosing the right type matters.
Main types
- Ball gags: a ball in the mouth that limits speech; look for breathing holes
- Ring or open-mouth gags: a ring keeps the mouth open and the centre hollow, so air and sound pass
- Bit gags: a bar held between the teeth like a bridle
- Silicone, leather or faux-leather straps with metal buckles and D-rings
What to compare
Check the size of the ball or ring, the strap length and how it fastens, and the material. A wider ball is more restrictive and tiring for the jaw; a ring is the more open choice. Look for an adjustable strap with several holes.
Gag safety
Never use a gag when drunk, drowsy or alone, and never leave a gagged person unattended. Agree a signal that works without speech and remove the gag at once if the wearer panics, chokes or has trouble breathing. Keep safety scissors within reach, wash the gag after every use and do not share it without washing.
