A flogger is a handle with many tails, used in impact play for spread-out strokes, light taps and teasing. Unlike a single paddle, the tails fan out and brush the skin, which gives a range from a gentle sweep to a heavier thud depending on the material, the length and the force.
What to compare
- Tail material: leather, suede, rubber or faux leather each feel different
- Tail length and number: more, longer tails usually spread the impact
- Handle length and grip: a comfortable handle gives better control
- Extras, such as a vibrating handle
- Care instructions, since leather needs more looking after
Which flogger for a beginner?
Choose soft or lighter tails and a handle that fits your hand. Start with slow, light strokes on the fleshy areas such as the buttocks and thighs, and increase the force only as you both agree.
Using a flogger safely
Avoid the spine, kidneys, joints, face and neck. Agree limits and a safeword before you begin, check in often and stop if there is pain you did not ask for. Clean any handle that vibrates with a damp cloth and keep its charging port dry, and store the tails flat or hanging so they keep their shape.
